Cookies

A short account of the cookies and similar storage this site uses, and how to refuse the optional ones. Last updated 18 August 2026.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a site stores on your device. Similar tools, such as localStorage, can hold a preference without sending it on every request. We use both sparingly. This page covers them together so you are not sent hunting through two notices.

Types we use

Essential. These remember that you have chosen Accept or Reject on the banner, and they keep the site usable (for example, they do not gate pages). The site works if you reject analytics.

Analytics. These help us see which programmes and essays are read. They are optional. They run only after you press Accept. Rejecting them does not hide syllabi, forms, or legal pages.

Cookies table

Name Purpose Duration Provider
datamapgrid_cookie_consent Stores whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies (localStorage, not a network cookie) Until you clear site data Data Mapgrid (first party)
dm_essential_session Placeholder essential session marker if a host enables it for load balancing; not used to advertise Session Data Mapgrid / hosting
_dm_read Optional analytics: which pages were opened after consent 6 months Data Mapgrid (first party), only if you Accept
fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com May set third-party cookies or connection data while loading typefaces Set by Google; typically up to 1 year for font files in cache Google Fonts (third party)

How to manage or disable cookies

Use Accept or Reject on the banner. To change your mind, clear this site’s cookies and localStorage in your browser, then reload; the banner will return. You can also block cookies in browser settings, or use a list such as the controls in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Blocking all cookies may forget your consent choice and show the banner again.

Third-party cookies

We load typefaces from Google Fonts. Google may process your IP address and may set cookies according to their own policies. Images on this site are requested from Unsplash; Unsplash may log the request. We do not control those logs. Optional first-party analytics, when accepted, stay on our host and are not sold.

Impact of disabling

Rejecting analytics does not remove programmes, essays, or the enquiry form. You may see the banner again after clearing storage. If you block Google Fonts, the layout still works in Georgia and system sans-serif. If you block all storage, we cannot remember a Reject click and will ask again — that is the cost of having no server-side consent log.

Personal data more generally is described in the privacy notice.
